He looks like a push-over.
大家看的出這個意思是什麼嗎???

push-over在英文中叫做"推倒"
可是如果這樣翻譯的話
變成他看起來像是一個被推倒
這又是什麼意思勒???

其實這句話It seems that he is easy to manipulate.
他看起來是個很好操弄的人
這個可以是正面的用法
指的是"他看起來很無辜~~很沒自我意見~~很容易就可以操作他"

負面的意思就是
"他看起來很沒主見"

以前的綜藝節目,有請藝人打惡作劇電話給別的藝人,那麼惡作劇電話該怎麼說呢?

" prank phone call "
- "It's when someone makes a call as a joke for their own amusement. They will often disguise their voice and not tell the truth about who they are. They may even make up characters and long back stories to make the call more believable. If you are a recipient of a prank call, the best thing that you can do is to hang up. !

youtube有個傢伙專門打prank phone call錄下來娛樂大家,不過我覺得它充滿了種族歧視.... 很白人式的白木笑點....

大家都習慣照相的時候"say cheese"

這樣可以讓自己的笑容看起來更自然一點

可是你有沒有依個經驗

幫你照相的人瞄了老半天

等到你都笑僵了他還沒拍

"笑僵了"在英文中要怎麼表達呢???

其實很簡單

"I have to rest my cheese."

就是你已經笑太多了~~要讓笑容休息一下‵

就是我已經笑僵囉~~~~~

My girlfriend is always paranoid! 我的女朋友總是疑神疑鬼,懷疑我的忠誠度!

paranoid是形容一個人疑神疑鬼,老是懷疑別人
- If you say that someone is paranoid, you mean that they are extremely suspicious and afraid of other people. (ref :柯林斯字典)
也可以形容患有妄想症的 (paranoia)
-Someone who is paranoid suffers from the mental illness of paranoia. (ref :柯林斯字典)

所以如果女朋友 ,常常因為一些莫名其妙的小事,(例如沒有定時打電話給他 , 假日和別的朋友有約...) 就覺得你偷吃有小三 , 和你吵架 , 就可以稱為paranoid....
又或者是有些人有被害妄想症,一直覺得有人要暗殺他, 這也是paranoid...

3. Reads negatively into praises. (負面解讀別人的讚美)

今天突然想到以前大學做的一些白癡事情,想到因為工作忙碌,很久沒有跟朋友聚在一起,心裡突然想起這首超級老歌....

You've got the stares.

休閒的時候你喜歡做些什麼事呢???
我最喜歡做的是就是發呆
查了很多字典都查不到這個應該怎麼表達
曾經和外國朋友聊天的時候

他告訴我"He looks like an idiot."
後來我們兩個同時大笑
但當然知道這不是答案

後來另一個外國朋友告訴我
應該是
"He just gazed at the window."
從字面上來說是注視著窗戶
我覺得這樣還是並非我想要表達的意思

有一次
終於從一個外國人口得知,原來這樣說
"You've got the stares."

stare在英文中叫做"凝視"
所以你剛剛一直凝視著
意思就是你剛剛在"發呆"
下次會說了吧

Screw it !

Screw it ! 管他的

screw 是"螺絲" (noun) 或者可以當成"用螺絲鎖緊,固定" (verb) .

- A screw is a metal object similar to a nail, with a raised spiral line around it. You turn a screw using a screwdriver so that it goes through two things, for example, two pieces of wood, and fastens them together.
- If you screw something somewhere or if it screws somewhere, you fix it in place by means of a screw or screws.

然而鎖螺絲的那個動作,其實有點像男女嘿咻的那個動作 >///< . 所以screw也可以當成是"男女性交" (verb) (不過是比較低俗的用法)

- If someone screws someone else or if two people screw, they have sex together. (ref : 柯林斯字典)
ex. Are you screwing her? (你有和他上床嗎 )

所以,screw 就有點像是 "fuck" , 所以當我們想講 "Fuck it ! (管它的!) " ,稍微不那麼粗俗的用法就是"Screw it ! "

所以囉, "Screw you ! "就有點像 "FXXX you! " , "去你的"!

接著, " screw something up " 是當成搞砸某事 .

-to screw something up, or to screw up, means to cause something to fail or be spoiled. (ref: 柯林斯字典)

ex. You screwed up ! moron! (北七,你搞砸了!)

What a rip-off!

Rip可以當成"剝掉""撕掉"的意思

- When something rips or when you rip it, you tear it forcefully with your hands or with a tool such as a knife.
- If you rip something away, you remove it quickly and forcefully.

而rip-off可以指 "坑錢" 或者是 "索價太高的商品". 買了這個東西就好像被剝皮一樣.

- If you say that something that you bought was a rip-off, you mean that you were charged too much money or that it was of very poor quality.

ex. If he thinks £5.40 a day for parking at Luton Airport is a rip-off, he should try Heathrow.

I spend my disposable income/extra budget traveling.

大家都有出去玩過的經驗吧???
如果要出去玩,必須挪一比平常用不到且多出來的錢來利用
"多出來的錢"在英文中要怎麼說呢???

"waste money???"英文裡面沒有這樣的講法
千萬不要照翻

其實這樣的表示方法有兩個
第一種方式叫做
extra budget

budget叫做預算或生活費
英文定義:
In a personal or family budget all sources of income (inflows) are identified and expenses (outflows) are planned with the intent of matching outflows to inflows (making ends meet). (來源:維基百科)

extra budget指的就是多出來的生活費
就可以用來說明"多出來的錢"

另一種方式叫做"disposable income"
disposable意思是可拋棄的
英譯:
designed to be disposed of after use (來源:新浪線上字典)

所以disposable income指的是可以拋棄的收入
當然我們不可能把收入丟掉
只是一種隱喻

以下是例句
I spend my disposable income/extra budget traveling.

something is out of my league 指我配不上甚麼,可以是工作,或者愛情
最常見的電影情節就是一個長的醜又無趣的宅宅(ginger headed dork)在夜店裡想搭訕金髮正妹(blondie)

最後就以電影 "She is out of my league!" 來當結尾吧:)

Your eyes are beautiful.

如果照字面上來翻，可以翻譯成你的眼睛很漂亮。

可是外國人用這一句話，不見得只有字面上的意思，當別人稱讚你很漂亮或妳身上穿的某個物品很出色的時候，害羞之餘，你會怎麼回答他呢？

臺灣人習慣說 "I am flattered."或是 "Thank you for your lip service."

但其實這樣的回答都有些許挑釁的意味，如何比較客氣的回答呢？當然就是

「Your eyes are beautiful.」

這句話指的是說，是因為你的眼睛漂亮（有眼光），所以看我才會漂亮。

"Your eyes are beautiful ; therefore , you see everything beautiful."

You really turn me on!

turn on 可以當成打開開關

- When you turn on a piece of equipment or a supply of something, you cause heat, sound, or water to be produced by adjusting the controls.

ex. She asked them why they hadn't turned the lights on.

也可以當成 "讓我(性)興奮"

- If someone or something turns you on, they attract you and make you feel sexually excited.

ex. The body that turns men on doesn't have to be perfect.

還有一個類似的字,不過程度上更強烈, 他是用來形容"慾火焚身"或者 "性衝動" - horny

- If you describe someone as horny, you mean that they are sexually aroused or that they easily become sexually aroused.

ex. you make me horny!

接著大家來想想,甚麼東西會turn you on呢?
